Questions from Readers – Philosophy of Life

April 10, 2013 By Brandon 1 Comment

SilhouetteI was recently asked about my ‘Philosophy of Life.’ Honestly, I had to think about this one. But for me, at this stage in my life, it comes down to this:

Invest in people, not things.

Of course, there will be those who ask about my investment strategy and a few of the reasons behind it, so here goes:

  • The true value in this type of portfolio reveals itself fairly quickly (CMV has no bearing)
  • Risk is typically minimal
  • Offers a Lifetime ROI
  • Unrealized gains are huge, and tax free

Tips for an excellent ROI: [Read more…] about Questions from Readers – Philosophy of Life

My Favorite Book – LGBT Author Pol McShane

April 5, 2013 By Brandon 1 Comment

Pol McShaneIn the ongoing My Favorite Book series I asked author Pol McShane to stop by and tell us which one of his books he considers his favorite. ~B

I have written several books, but none are more near and dear to me than Luthor. This may sound a bit odd for those who read the book and experience the intense tale within its pages, but the character Luthor has a way of reaching into one’s heart and not letting go. Luthor is the story of an affluent family ruled by an abusive father, Garvin Brodrick.

The family lives in a large mansion in Salem, Massachusetts. The two children, Amanda and Joshua, are repeatedly abused both physically and sexually by Garvin.  Their mother, Lillie, is aware of the abuse, but unable to help.  As the first half of the story unfolds, Amanda and Joshua find solace and comfort in each other’s arms.  Through a series of events, the two find themselves the sole heirs to the fortune and living alone in the mansion.  But their love for one another continues. This union produces a child born with hideous deformities, including a rare skin disease and eyes that are extremely sensitive to light. [Read more…] about My Favorite Book – LGBT Author Pol McShane

Interview with LGBT Author Carey Parrish

March 29, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Carey Parrish

Welcome Carey Parrish to the blog, my friend and fellow author. We’ve gone back and forth on social media but I’ve never really had the chance to chat with this amazing man. Today, we changed that. Hope you enjoy.  ~B

Of the books you have in print, which one is your favorite and why?

I would say my novel Big Business. It’s a sequel to my first novel Marengo. The reason I feel so proud of it is because I tackled the most complex plot I’ve yet written about with that one. I brought back characters from Marengo, who proved to be very popular with readers – I was still getting emails asking for more of them almost two years after Marengo was published – and I put them all in a heftier plot with a lot more intrigue and danger. I also introduced some new characters which I had a blast creating in my mind! The whole thing flowed like honey once I finished my outline and my research, and really started writing the book. And I was really proud of the fact that even though it is a sequel, it stands on its own; you don’t have to read the first one to enjoy the second. I plan to do more with this series. Interview with LGBT Author Gareth Russell

March 25, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Gareth RussellWelcome Gareth Russell to the blog. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, Gareth is an Irish YA author, published with Penguin and MadeGlobal. He is also a historian sought out by the media and is working on a third novel and a nonfiction book on the history of British royalty.

Welcome to the blog Gareth. Can you tell us a little about your Popular series?

Thanks for having me. The “Popular” books are a 6 book series with a comedy-drama theme. Two of the books are now published. The gay romance between Blake and Cameron, two of the central characters, is one of its main story-lines and I plan to have it run through all 6 books. Their storyline is in some way about portraying a hopeful or optimistic depiction of teen homosexuality. I hope ultimately that it’s a story of love that everyone can invest in. Queer Affection in Public

March 18, 2013 By Brandon

“You can be queer, as long as you keep it private.”

How many times have you heard that from family, friends, enemies?  This short Irish film explores public displays of affection by the lgbt community and how we hide them so that the people around us feel comfortable.

Hold on Tight from Anna Rodgers on Vimeo.

Holding hands or kissing in public isn’t for everyone. When it comes to same sex relationships, showing your love outside of the home is sometimes a complicated personal choice. This short documentary moves between the public and private spaces in which lesbian and gay couples live, and explores small gestures of human connectedness. These gentle interactions not only carry a huge personal significance, but also the potent power to create social change. Yet, for most people, being affectionate beyond the hall door isn’t intended as a political statement – it’s an expression of love. [Read more…] about Queer Affection in Public

My Favorite Book – LGBT Author Elizabeth Noble

March 15, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Welcome Elizabeth Noble to the blog. She’s here to tell us about her favorite book. As I did with many of the guest authors I’ve had here before, I asked Elizabeth to pick her favorite from one of her own books. And she was nice enough to give us an excerpt too!

Elizabeth Noble

Thank you for having me today!

I have lots of favorites that revolve around my writing. A favorite way to write, as well as a place. Favorite things to surround myself with when I write, but an actual favorite book? I nearly gave myself hives trying to pick a favorite book of mine that I’d written. How could I possibly do that? It was like saying pick my favorite child.

Each book has its good and bad from the point of the writer. The book I’m most excited about is the one I’m currently writing. The book that gives me a warm gooey feeling (the thank heavens it’s done feeling) in my stomach is the one about to be released. But a favorite among the books already published, that was hard. So, I employed my variation of an age old technique. I stood in front of the framed versions of my covers, closed my eyes and went eenee, menie, miney, moe. March 12, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Brian Centrone, AuthorWelcome author Brian Centrone to the blog.

Some of my readers may not be familiar with you Brian, please tell us a little about yourself.

Thanks for the invite Brandon, I’m glad to be here. I lived for three years in Manchester where I got my MA in Novel Writing from The University of Manchester. I teach writing and literature in New York and Ohio. I am a big pop culture junkie; I love fashion, music, art and literature. Creativity fuels me – always has.
