Interview with New LGBT Author Edward Jakab

February 12, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Edward Jakab
Welcome first time author, Edward Jakab to the blog. Since it is so close to Valentine’s Day I thought we would talk about young love, and Mr. Jakab’s first book, Fearless, is about just that.
B: Tell us about how you got started and where Fearless came from?

E: I first started writing screenplays; they were always about this guy named Jacob Moore who is based on me.  I wrote the book mainly because the story needed to be told. I just kept going back to those couple of moments in my life when everything was great with my first boyfriend, but then that took me to the time I told him about the other guy and how guilty I felt. But the other guy, he was the one. I know people say that all the time about everyone, but I truly feel he was the one, and he still is in some ways. My Favorite Book – LGBT Author Kaje Harper

January 18, 2013 By Brandon 1 Comment

Every author has one book of their own work which is their favorite. This week I’m talking with Kaje Harper about her favorite books and her fundraising efforts for LGBT youth.

B: First, tell me about your books. What’s your favorite and why?

K: My two favorites are my freebies for the Goodreads M/M Romance group – Like the Taste of Summer and Into Deep Waters.  Of those two, IDW is really my baby.

Into Deep WatersThe story was inspired by a black-and-white photo of two young WWII sailors against the steel-riveted doorway of a ship. The story request prompt that said they were still together sixty years later.  I jumped on that prompt and claimed it the second it became available.  There was something about the way they stood, the way the handsome man behind let his hair fall in his eyes, the way the plainer young man in front fisted a hand in his lover’s shirtfront, that told me who they were.  And then there was the challenge of all those years… [Read more…] about My Favorite Book – LGBT Author Kaje Harper

Prince & Ekaj – LGBT Film

October 17, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Prince and Ekaj

Prince & Ekaj is a story about two gay Latino teenagers who are completely different from each other. One is a runaway teenager, and the other is a self-taught street hustler who spends his time wandering the streets of NYC at night looking for ways to make money. They both meet by chance and end up realizing that they depend on one another more than they think in a city that is full of crime, drugs, prostitution, and of course, hope.

Their story is not an easy one, but then surviving on the street as a gay teen isn’t easy either.

I featured the producers of this film on my blog some months back, and then brought it up again when one of the young actors was beaten and robbed in real life. The film is in the last two & a half weeks of filming and has a fundraiser event in NYC on Oct 25th and you can be a part of this monumental work of art.  Space is limited to 75 guests. Register

The absence of hope – Homeless LGBT Youth

September 27, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

As many of you know I help raise awareness and funds for two LGBT charities. 10% of the proceeds from the sales of my books go to them.  Lost n Found, one of the charities, posted a video about what they find during outreach to homeless LGBT Youth.

This is how 500,000 homeless gay kids live on the street every single day. You can help by donating to either of the groups below, or by finding a local lgbt charity in your area that does the same type of outreach.
