This LGBT novel could be free for future generations with your help

January 13, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Young lesbian coming-out novel will come out as a free e-book

(if the crowd-funding campaign succeeds by January 30, 2013)

Nancy Rawles explains why she wants to make her novel free forever:

Love Like GumboEbooks ought to be like cell phones – giving people access who would otherwise have no service. If a young lesbian of color struggling to come out to her family wants to read a book about a young lesbian of color struggling to come out to her family, she should have it available free as an ebook rather than having to hide a hard copy between the covers. Unglue.it is the PBS of publishing, premiums and all. I miss a lot of great shows because I don’t have HBO, but I’ve seen every Downton Abbey a few times over. I’m eager for Love Like Gumbo to be unglued.”

An Author’s Favorite Book

January 8, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

my favorite bookEvery author has written a favorite book. It’s their baby, no matter how flawed, criticized, or demeaned, that particular book will always stand out for them.  It’s kind of like having a favorite child, you really don’t want to say it in public and hurt anyone’s feelings, but the truth is still there.  You simply can’t help it.

This year I’ll be talking with LGBT authors about their own favorite books (among other things).  We’ll discuss what those books mean to them, how they developed the manuscript, and why the book is so precious. Sometimes the story is coincidental to an event in their life; sometimes it is simply the love for the characters that they developed, and other times it simply is the book for no other reason than that. A Reverse Lolita or Gerontophilia – LGBT Film

January 1, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Bruce LaBruce’s new film Gerontophilia poses an interesting question. What happens when an 18 year old boy discovers he has a fetish for the aged and gets a job in a nursing home? This appears to be more than just a ‘daddy complex’ film. The young man is straight but develops an intimate relationship with an old man, setting them off on a journey of escape and illumination.  It’s already being labelled as a gay Harold & Maude, but personally I’m hoping for a bit more than that. We’ll have to wait and see. You can see Bruce LaBruce’s video message below and you can learn a little more about the film on Indiegogo

LGBT Music Monday – Heather Peace

December 31, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

37-year-old lesbian and LGBT activist  is well known in the UK for playing a detective on lesbian drama series Lip Service, as well as appearing in dramas such as Waterloo Road and Coronation Street. She was also just booked for Mardi Gras 2013 in Sydney.

Have a listen, I’m sure you’ll be hooked as quickly as I was.

What have you Accomplished?

December 22, 2012 By Brandon 1 Comment

changeWhen we started this writing crusade some 18+ months ago one of my first questions was how I could make a difference concerning those issues that are important to me.  Making a difference doesn’t always mean a monetary donation as some believe. A difference can be made by the offer of a kind voice, and unbiased ear, a warm heart, or a gentle embrace when it is needed most.  I believe too many people shy away from what matters most to them because they fear that what they can offer is inadequate.

But when you have nothing, when there is no one to turn to, what then? What you would label as ‘inadequate’ is a goldmine to some.  Knowledge, time, compassion are all commodities that have much, much more value than money. [Read more…] about What have you Accomplished?
