What’s Coming in 2013?

November 27, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Next year seems like a million miles away in writing terms. Talk to a publisher, book marketer, or an editor and they turn and look at the production board and shake their head. All the work before the holidays – release dates, deadlines, where’s the effing MS you promised…

I am all of the above: the writer, the marketer, the chastiser, the deadline harbinger of doom. Don’t get me wrong. I have help on this end. I have an outside editor and I have the people who pressed me to publish. They have also been dragged along on this journey and as we put out book four (in 18 months) they are digging through other manuscripts while my muse stands behind me with a rather large whip wondering why I can’t type fast enough. Then there are the fans, who I greatly appreciate, but the “more, more” is making things feel a bit rushed, and from my perspective, it has left my writing not to the standard I usually set. Interview with author Amelia C Gormley (with a bonus excerpt)

October 18, 2012 By Brandon 4 Comments

I’m talking to Amelia C. Gormley today whose debut book Inertia (Impulse #1) is garnering great reviews. We’re chatting about her book, her future plans, her next book in the series, and her goal of aiding the Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit.

Inertia (Impulse #1) is the story of Derrick Chance, a man who lost his heart once and isn’t willing to risk it again. (But you know that never works out, no matter how much we try.)

B: One of the first things that struck me about your MC, Derrick, is that he felt like an old soul, and was not a fashionista, which I find all too (stereotypically) often in M/M romance. Externally he appears quite comfortable with his life, but internally…that’s a different story. How did you develop his character? Music in the Writing Process

September 9, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

music, fiction, writing tips, writing processIt’s always been my practice to have music playing while I write, but then again, there is always music playing in my home so that shouldn’t seem odd. For me, the written word, like a musical score, has a certain syncopation to it, a vibratory tone that underscores what you read as you read it.

Often my writing is described as lyrical, and this is something I (unknowingly) have striven for over the years as I put words down. The writing always had to not only sound right, but feel right too, and that feeling wasn’t just from word choice but from sentence & paragraph structure which lent itself to a vibratory undertone. 10% of Book Sales to LGBT Youth Charity

August 28, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

As of September 1st, 2012 ten percent (10%) of ALL book sales will go to two LGBT Youth Charities

lgbt nonprofitAs most of my regular readers already know, it was previously set up so that 50% of the proceeds from The Value of Rain went to two charities working with LGBTQ youth. Unfortunately, that has turned into an accounting nightmare in which the end loser is the charities themselves.  With two books out, another coming out in September, and several more planned for next year I can see this getting worse.

Changing how I raise funds will allow all my readers to know that their money is going to a solid cause (getting homeless LGBT kids off the street) and broaden the choices for those readers while at the same time giving me/us the ability to send more money to the nonprofits involved. (10% of multiple books is more than 50% of one). [Read more…] about 10% of Book Sales to LGBT Youth Charity

A Message of Hope from Author Ross McCoubrey

August 15, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Ross McCoubrey, AuthorToday I want to introduce you to a fellow author after my own heart, Ross McCoubrey. Ross gives part of the proceeds from his debut book One Boy’s Shadow to a nonprofit LGBT Youth organization. Anyone that reads my blog, books, or social feeds knows how important that is to me.

B: One Boy’s Shadow is about coming of age and coming out but only in a small aspect, you told me it’s more of a paranormal ghost story, is that right? [Read more…] about A Message of Hope from Author Ross McCoubrey
