An Author’s Favorite Book

January 8, 2013 By Brandon Leave a Comment

my favorite bookEvery author has written a favorite book. It’s their baby, no matter how flawed, criticized, or demeaned, that particular book will always stand out for them.  It’s kind of like having a favorite child, you really don’t want to say it in public and hurt anyone’s feelings, but the truth is still there.  You simply can’t help it.

This year I’ll be talking with LGBT authors about their own favorite books (among other things).  We’ll discuss what those books mean to them, how they developed the manuscript, and why the book is so precious. Sometimes the story is coincidental to an event in their life; sometimes it is simply the love for the characters that they developed, and other times it simply is the book for no other reason than that. Interview with author Amelia C Gormley (with a bonus excerpt)

October 18, 2012 By Brandon 4 Comments

I’m talking to Amelia C. Gormley today whose debut book Inertia (Impulse #1) is garnering great reviews. We’re chatting about her book, her future plans, her next book in the series, and her goal of aiding the Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit.

Inertia (Impulse #1) is the story of Derrick Chance, a man who lost his heart once and isn’t willing to risk it again. (But you know that never works out, no matter how much we try.)

B: One of the first things that struck me about your MC, Derrick, is that he felt like an old soul, and was not a fashionista, which I find all too (stereotypically) often in M/M romance. Externally he appears quite comfortable with his life, but internally…that’s a different story. How did you develop his character? Interview with new author Jeff Ballam

October 4, 2012 By Brandon 1 Comment

Jeff Ballam, AuthorI’m talking with Jeff Ballam today. Jeff is a lgbt author and a 6th grade teacher. His new book is Out of the Past .

B: Welcome Jeff. Tell us a little about Out of the Past, what’s the story line?

J: Thank you, Brandon. First, I want to thank you for the opportunity to chat here with you. I appreciate the support. The story line is about a young gay man, Paul  Vanderwall who is also a schoolteacher. He has been hurt by love, so he doesn’t want to take any risks. He’s summoned to jury duty and meets a tall, dark, handsome defense attorney who is trying the same case Paul is serving on. Their paths continue to cross during the trial, and so do their eyes, so they can’t act on their desires, yet once the trial is over, Paul receives a letter inviting him on a date with the attorney, and there are quite a few surprises along the way. Interview with Author David-Paul Erhart

September 6, 2012 By Brandon 3 Comments

David-Paul ErhartToday I’m talking with author, musician and NYC marathon runner David-Paul Erhart. Mr. Erhart taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, authored Sound & Symbol (The Rudiments of Music Complete in Two Volumes), and ran in and completed three NYC marathons. His latest project is InnerBouquet, a website devoted to celebrating the lives and accomplishments of LGBT artists, activists and athletes.

B: I read from a piece you had written in 2007 that in a meeting about finding out who your biological parents were, you saw your adoptive mother show a burst of emotion and it made you change how perceive people. Is that reflected in what you’re trying to do now with InnerBouquet? [Read more…] about Interview with Author David-Paul Erhart

Changing Perceptions with Romance Writing: An Interview with Ranae Rose

August 29, 2012 By Brandon 3 Comments

Ranae Rose, Best Selling Romance AuthorI’m talking with Ranae Rose today, a Bestselling Romance Author with over a dozen books under her belt.  As you could’ve probably guessed we’re talking about how romance changes perceptions, and specifically how it has changed perceptions in regards to LGBTQ people and their relationships.

B: Do you think romance novels enhance the perception of LGBT people? The reason I ask is that I just spoke with someone who was dismayed at the seeming plethora of M/M fiction on major books sites like Amazon and Kobo when they went searching for gay (non-sexual) fiction. It’s my personal opinion that the popularity of M/M fiction among heterosexual women is one of the major reasons we have seen such a shift in the overall public perception of LGBT people. Your thoughts? [Read more…] about Changing Perceptions with Romance Writing: An Interview with Ranae Rose

A Message of Hope from Author Ross McCoubrey

August 15, 2012 By Brandon Leave a Comment

Ross McCoubrey, AuthorToday I want to introduce you to a fellow author after my own heart, Ross McCoubrey. Ross gives part of the proceeds from his debut book One Boy’s Shadow to a nonprofit LGBT Youth organization. Anyone that reads my blog, books, or social feeds knows how important that is to me.

B: One Boy’s Shadow is about coming of age and coming out but only in a small aspect, you told me it’s more of a paranormal ghost story, is that right? [Read more…] about A Message of Hope from Author Ross McCoubrey
